HOW DO I DO THIS?

You can now subscribe for weekly deliveries for a specific period. You can subscribe to a summer or fall bag that includes vegetables that are in season.

 

You start with a subscription fee that will get you a veggie bag every week for a hole season! Delivered to your workplace (at Lindholmen only) by bike no later than 3 pm on Tuesdays.

OUR VISION

AN URBAN FARMER IN EVERY NEIGHBORHOOD

It will be just as common to grab some food at the urban farmer as at the grocery store.

We want to educate, inspire and create oppurtunities for more sustainable urban farmers with thriving farm plots. 600 square meters is enough soil to sustain two urban farmers - year around.

WE ARE URBAN FARMERS

The farm is run by Jonas and William.  Jonas has a background in humane ecology and behavioral science. William has a background in humane ecology and is a licenced gardener. The driving force is to create a sustainable city with the help of a model for urban farming. Since the start in 2015 we´ve started three farms. At Masthuggskajen, Frihamnen and a rooftop farm at Clarion Post Hotel. We get our income from selling the vegetables at a weekly pick-n-pay and straight to restaurants.

THE FARMS TODAY

Today we grow at two different locations - in Lindholmen  and the roof of Clarion Post Hotel. At the farm in Lindholmen we grow to many different restaurants, offers weekly pick-n-pay for anyone interested or delivers our seasonal veggie bag to nearby workplaces.  In 2017 we also built a rooftop farm at Clarion Post Hotel in central Gothenburg where we sell the produce directly to the two restaurants vRÅ and Norda that are located in the hotel.

ALL THE NUTRIENTS ARE IN THE CITY

The conventional agriculture today with all the associated transports is a big concern for our planets health. With more local production in Gothenburg we can reduce the need for fossil fuels. We deliver our vegetables within an hour of harvest with a quality a non-local producer can compete with. The veggies gets delivered with a bike, bike-trailer or even an elevator (if the farm is on the roof as it is on Clarion Post Hotel).

 

Nutrients we use comes from many sources in the city. We have used manure from animals in the park Slottsskogen, locally made compost from the parks in the city or by locally turning food waste from restaurants to compost. In 2018 we will compost over two tonne of food waste on Clarion Post Hotel with a technique called  Bokashi. With the service of bacteria and yeast we are closing the loop so both the rooftop farm and the planet gets a little bit happier.

PLEASE, BE OUR COMPETITOR

The demand for locally produced vegetables is insatiable. That we know from our own experiences. If we will close the food loop within the city we need both new farmers and more land. To do urban farming is way easier then many people think. You only need a bit of concrete, a roof or a lawn, some soil and a bag of seed - then just do it!

KALE DOESN´T SPEAK SWEDISH

Today two people can survive on Kajodlingens production. That is a solid proof that we are on to something. To create possibilities for more urban farms can in the short run generate a lot of jobs. Specially for people with the farming know-how but due to language barriers are having a hard time getting a job.

WEEKLY DROP OFF

In 2019 you can also buy our vegetables by ordering at the Facebook group REKO Göteborg. Only in swedish at the moment.

REKO-ring is a new way of buying locally produced food without the middleman. You simply scroll through ads at this particular Facebook group and order by commenting under the product ad you are interested in. Then we meet up at a parking lot at this address Pusterviksgatan 15 (or check the map below).

When others see a roof, a lawn or some asphalt, we see a potentially new urban farm plot. What´s so great about urban farming is that you don´t need much to get started. Everyone can. Atleast with some help from two urban farmers who already done all the mistakes. 

 

Kajodlingen started with the purpose of stimulating a more sustainable city with organic urban farming. Today our farm in Frihamnen and the rooftop farm at Clarion Post Hotel can sustain two farmers. That is a concrete example of a business model that actually make sense. But the need for local produce is way bigger then we can grow and if we are going to close the food loop within the city we need more urban farmers!
